About us

Zoology Building Photo

Post-Graduate Department of Zoology is established in the year1963 to impart higher education (teaching and research) in Zoology. The existing building has 1551.74 Sq. m. built up area in the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule University Educational Campus. The Department runs three programmes, a two-year Master of Science (M. Sc.) degree, one-year Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) degree and Doctor of Philosophy(Ph.D.) degree by research.

The Department has sufficient space and the laboratories for post Graduate teaching and research activities. The Department has also its separate departmental library with latest collection of text-books, reference books for M. Sc. Students and a number of Journals of basic and applied nature useful to conduct researches in the areas of endocrinology, physiology, Immunocy to chemisty, cell and tissue culture, reproductive biology, and Neurobiology in the branches of Entomology, Fish and Fisheries, Animal Physiology and of Mammalian Reproductive Physiology.

Courses

Courses

  • M.Sc. (Four semesters course: Choice based credit system)
  • Ph. D.

Syllabus

  • Choice based credit system has been introduced from the session 2015-16.
  • Complete course is of 2500 marks (100 credits) which are equally divided in four semesters.
  • Seminars and dissertation are the important part of M. Sc. programme.

Admissions and Eligibility (Intake, Rules and Procedure, Admission list, etc)

Masters Program (M.Sc.)

  • No. of students admitted in each session: 40 + 8 students from Gondwana University.
  • Duration- Two years (Four Semesters course).
  • Eligibility- B. Sc. with Zoology as one of the subjects.
  • Admission procedure: On the basis of merit and rules of the University.
  • Specialization: Mammalian Reproductive Physiology, Entomology, Animal Physiology and Fish and Fisheries (offered from third semester).
  • Project at fourth semester.
  • The reservation of seats is according to the Govt. of Maharashtra rules.

Research Programs (Ph.D.)

  • Guidance for the Ph.D. degrees is offered in all the specialization
  • Admission criteria for Ph.D. : Candidates who have qualified NET/SET or PET I and II (Ph.D. Entrance Test of RTM Nagpur University) can apply for the registration to Ph.D. programme.
